SOUND DISCOVERIES: MUSIC FOR A CAREER provides educational and performance opportunities — and financial assistance where needed — for talented and motivated young musicians who aspire to careers in music performance, music education or music administration.

The Cincinnati Symphony Youth Orchestra (CSYO) is an integral part of Sound Discoveries: Music for a Career.

Workshop I
Showtime: Putting it Together
Saturday, November 1 at 5:00 PM at Music Hall

What does it take to make a concert happen? Members of the CSO Artistic/Production department will show you what it takes. A tour of Music Hall’s backstage is featured as you meet the people who book and work with artists and conductors, and organize the schedules to make the CSO and Pops work like clockwork. Hear some of the backstage stories that make careers in music exciting!        
                                    
Workshop II
Marketing & Public Relations: Business Skills in Classical Music
Saturday, January 31 at 5:00 PM at Music Hall

Staff members of the CSO Marketing and Public Relations departments discuss their job responsibilities and how they relate to marketing and PR jobs in the business world.  Questions we’ll answer are: What is Public Relations? How do you sell a concert? Who is the Classical Music consumer?  And who picks the music in those commercials?

Saturday, March 28 at 5:00 PM at Music Hall

Mr. Jeffrey Mumford is internationally recognized for his compositions for symphony orchestras, chamber ensembles & solo instruments.  Mr. Mumford has received numerous fellowships, grants and commissions including a commission by the Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra. Don’t miss this opportunity to find out more about how composers create music for today’s orchestras.
           
Workshop IV
The Audition Process 2009:
Cincinnati Symphony Youth Orchestra and Beyond
Saturday, April 18 at 5:00 PM
(Please make reservations by Thursday, April 16)
CSO Assistant Conductor Ken Lam, CCM Assistant Dean Paul Hillner and ??? answer your audition questions and CSYO musicians demonstrate key audition skills.  Mr. Hillner & ??? can also offer guidance about what kinds of courses and experiences you=ll want to have before you apply to college music programs.  Topics we=ll explore include: What are they listening for? How should I prepare? What if I get nervous? Is there a better way to practice?

Parents are encouraged to attend!

Workshops will take place in Music Hall’s Large Rehearsal Room.
Dinner & up to 4 concert tickets are included free of charge for participants.
