Steven Reineke Named Cincinnati Pops Associate Conductor

Steven Reineke has been named to the post of Associate Conductor of the Cincinnati Pops Orchestra. He previously served as the orchestra’s Music Associate and Principal Arranger. Mr. Reineke is a dynamic rising star in the symphonic pops genre with over 100 arrangements for the Cincinnati Pops that have been performed by orchestras worldwide. His arrangements can be heard on numerous Cincinnati Pops recordings on the Telarc label and have been broadcast nationally by PBS.

A protégé of the legendary pops conductor Erich Kunzel, Mr. Reineke also serves as the Principal Pops Conductor of the Modesto and Long Beach Symphony Orchestras. His recent guest conducting appearances include the orchestras of Cincinnati, Toronto, Dallas, Detroit, Indianapolis, Baltimore and Edmonton . In 2008 Mr. Reineke made his Carnegie Hall debut conducting The New York Pops 25th Birthday Gala. In 2007 he made his Hollywood Bowl debut with the multi-faceted entertainer Wayne Brady and he returned to the Hollywood Bowl in 2008. In addition, Mr. Reineke conducted, arranged and orchestrated the music for Mr. Brady’s new orchestral show that debuted in October 2007 with the Cincinnati Pops Orchestra. In 2006 Mr. Reineke collaborated with rock legend Peter Frampton as conductor, arranger and orchestrator for Mr. Frampton’s orchestral show.

Mr. Reineke is also an established symphonic composer. His works Celebration Fanfare, Legend of Sleepy Hollow and Casey at the Bat are performed frequently in North America , with the most recent performances by the New York Philharmonic and Los Angeles Philharmonic in July 2008. In August 2008 his Sun Valley Festival Fanfare debuted with the Sun Valley Symphony Orchestra to commemorate the opening of their new pavilion. In 2005 his Festival Te Deum and Swans Island Sojourn were performed by the Cincinnati Symphony and Cincinnati Pops respectively. The Cincinnati Enquirer had this to say about Festival Te Deum, “Melodious and joyous, it had antiphonal brass in the balconies, organ, full orchestra and wonderful choral passages.” His numerous wind ensemble compositions are published by the C.L. Barnhouse Company and are performed by concert bands around the world.

In honor of Mr. Reineke’s new title with the Cincinnati Pops, Erich Kunzel will turn over the baton to him for the opening work on the From the Top concert program, a Reineke composition called Festival Fanfare. Performances are October 24, 25 and 26 at Music Hall.

A native of Ohio, Mr. Reineke is a graduate of Miami University of Ohio, receiving two bachelor of music degrees with honors in both trumpet performance and music composition. He resides in Cincinnati.
