Following in the footsteps of the highly successful "creative director" model, the CSO will engage two solo artists in residence during the 2013-14 season, cellist Alisa Weilerstein and violinist Augustin Hadelich, as well as an ensemble in residence, eighth blackbird. These sought-after musicians will each participate in separate Cincinnati residency weeks comprised of performances, masterclasses, workshops, appearances and more that will benefit the community in myriad ways.
Three artists lend their unique talents to the CSO this 2013-2014 season. Award winning cellist Alisa Weilerstein will offer her exceptional styling while performing pieces for the Masterworks and Ascent Series. Top violinist Augustin Hadelich will wow audiences with his exceptional skills for our Ascent Series and Grammy award winning sextet Eighth Blackbird will trample expectations in the Boundless Series.

Attention grabbing American cellist Alisa Weilerstein offers her exceptional styling to the CSO this season during the Ascent Series collaborating with guest conductor Asher Fisch. She is continuously praised for her ability to authenticate and perform masterpieces with the intensity of her playing as well as her intricate attention and sensitivity to detail. In 2008 Justin Davidson of New York Magazine perhaps said it best: "Whatever she plays sounds custom-composed for her, as if she has a natural affinity with everything."

Augustin Hadelich

Young violinist Augustin Hadelich returns to the CSO contributing his "gorgeous tone," "poetic communication" and "fast-fingered brilliance." Mr. Hadelich has earned his top position for young violinists and is sure to delight every audience this season while reaching far beyond the traditional elements of violin repertoire. eighth blackbird will be joining the CSO with Music Director Louis Langrée in 2014 for the Boundless Series, including performing during Mr. Langrée’s inaugural program as Music Director and the innovative MusicNOW collaboration. This Chicago-based ensemble has been constantly entertaining audiences across the globe with their unique contemporary style as advocates of new music by the world’s most talented composers.
