Public Radio’s SymphonyCast Puts National Spotlight on CSO

Two CSO Concerts to air on popular national program

Cincinnati — The Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra will receive additional exposure to the world’s music lovers with two upcoming appearances on SymphonyCast, a public radio program showcasing the world’s great orchestras. This national program airs locally each Tuesday evening at 8 p.m. on 90.9 WGUC, and is produced by American Public Media.

The Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra will first appear on SymphonyCast on Tuesday, April 8 at 8 p.m. The concert was recorded in Music Hall on September 21, 2007 by Cincinnati Public Radio (owner of WGUC) under a contract with the CSO. The concert was conducted by Paavo Järvi, with guest performer Sharon Bezaly on flute. That night’s program includes:

BEETHOVEN: Fidelio Overture

MOZART: Flute Concerto No. 2 in D Major, K. 314 (285d)

MOZART: Andante for Flute and Orchestra in C Major, K. 315 (285e)

BARTÓK: Concerto for Orchestra

The second Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra appearance on SymphonyCast will be on Tuesday, July 1 at 8 p.m. and features Paavo Jarvi conducting and guest artist Vadim Rapin, violin. That evening’s program includes:

MAHLER: Todtenfeier

MAHLER: Symphony No. 10 (Adagio)

MAHLER / arr. BRITTEN: What the Wild Flowers Tell Me

BEETHOVEN: Violin Concerto in D Major, Op. 61

“When we added SymphonyCast to the WGUC lineup last year, we were anxious to be able to share the Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra with the rest of the country and the world, and now we have that chance,” said Robin Gehl, VP of Programming for WGUC. “I certainly hope these two concerts on April 8 and July 1 are just the beginning of the CSO’s regular appearances on SymphonyCast.”
