CINCINNATI – Experience chamber music in an intimate setting performed by world-class musicians from the Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra as the CSO Chamber Players present a special concert at Memorial Hall on Friday, February 8 at 7:30 p.m.  The CSO Chamber Players provide a pure music experience with the highest caliber musicians in the region.

With echoes of Beethoven’s later works, Willhem Stenhammar’s significant String Quartet No. 2 from 1898 is a time-proven, popular chamber work known for its fierce originality.

This is followed in the program by Osvaldo Golijov’s Last Round, a thrilling tribute to Astor Piazolla, the last great Tango composer.  The piece will feature eight string players.  According to composer Golijov on his own website, “I composed Last Round… as an imaginary chance for Piazzolla's spirit to fight one more time. The piece is conceived as an idealized bandoneon (a small accordion popular in Latin America). There are two movements: the first represents the act of a violent compression of the instrument and the second a final, seemingly endless opening sigh…”

The concert closes with the richly melodic Piano Trio in C by Johannes Brahms featuring University of Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music Professor of Piano Frank Weinstock.  This audience favorite is a remarkable chamber work written at the height of the composer’s creative life.

The CSO gratefully acknowledges support from the Eleanora C.U. Alms Trust, Fifth Third Bank, Trustee.
