University of Cincinnati College-Conservatory
of Music
Musical Theater Department
The CCM Department of Musical
Theater was established in 1969, the first of its kind in
the country, and was used as a model by the National Association
of Schools of Music in establishing guidelines for accrediting
musical theater programs. The CCM Department of Musical Theater
provides professional conservatory training designed to help
singers, dancers and actors become accomplished musical theater
performers. With its emphasis on imagination, analysis and
technical skill, the program provides the craft to master
a popular art form, to capture in sound and movement those
universal emotions that have made the musical America's most
visible contribution to world theater.
CCM's professional training program in musical theater
is designed to create "triple threats," talented
young people who can sing, dance and act with equal accomplishment.
Its musical theater graduates are working on Broadway and
throughout the nation in productions such as Beauty and
the Beast, Grease, Les Miserables, Miss Saigon, The Phantom
of the Opera, Ragtime and Show Boat. Students represent
their alma mater in national and international touring productions,
in dinner theaters and theme parks, on cruise ships, on television,
as producers, and in many related entertainment fields. The
skills acquired in classes at CCM provide an excellent background
for a wide range of dynamic careers in the arts.
