Hélène Grimaud, pianist
Hélène Grimaud performs regularly in the leading musical centers and with major orchestras worldwide. Recent engagements have included performances with the Philharmonia Orchestra, New York Philharmonic, Los Angeles Philharmonic and Munich Philharmonic. She has appeared frequently with Paavo Järvi and the Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra, most recently in the fall of 2004 both at Music Hall and on tour to Europe.

Hélène Grimaud studied music in her native town of Aix en Provence, in Marseille with Pierre Barbizet and from the age of 12 at the Conservatoire National Supérieur du Musique in Paris under Jacques Rouvier, Gyorgy Sandor and Leon Fleischer.

In 2002 Ms. Grimaud signed an exclusive contract with Deutsche Grammophon. Last season saw the release of her solo album of music by Chopin and Rachmaninoff. Her first DGG release, Credo, includes music by Beethoven and Arvo Pärt with the Swedish Radio Symphony Orchestra conducted by Esa-Pekka Salonen. Her recording of the Brahms Piano Concerto No. 1 with the Berlin Staatskapelle Orchester and Kurt Sanderling received the 1999 Classical Award.

Hélène Grimaud received the “Victoire d’honneur” at the French “Victoires de Musique” in 2004. In January 2002 she was appointed an Officier dans l’ordre des Arts et des Lettres by the French Ministère de la Culture.

Hélène Grimaud’s first book, Variations Sauvages, is published by Editions Robert Laffont and has been translated into several languages.
