Peter Jablonski, piano
Born in Lyckeby, Sweden, Peter Jablonski came to prominence in his early teens, performing Beethoven’s Piano Concerto No.1 in Warsaw and Krakow. This was soon followed by concerts with both the Swedish and Danish Radio Orchestras. At the age of 18 he was brought to the attention of Vladimir Ashkenazy, who invited him to record the Gershwin Piano Concerto for Decca, raising Peter Jablonski to international recognition.
Peter Jablonski has given concerts on all five continents, both in recital and with many orchestras and promoinent conductors. Highlights have included the Deutsches Symphonie-Orchester Berlin (with whom he has also made a number of recordings), BBC Symphony, Philharmonia, the Cleveland and Philadelphia orchestras, Kirov Orchestra, Czech Philharmonic, Orchestre National de France, as well as the London, Stockholm, Oslo and New Japan Philharmonics.
A frequent performer in Japan, Mr. Jablonski recently performed there on tour with the Stavanger Symphony under Susanna Mälkki, and with the NHK Symphony under Ashkenazy, which resulted in an immediate re-invitation. Within Europe plans include the Leipzig Gewandhaus under Riccardo Chailly, London Chamber Orchestra, BBC National Orchestra of Wales, Orquesta Ciudad de Granada, Orchestra Filarmonica della Scala, and the Trondheim Symphony.
Alongside his solo performances, Mr Jablonski has recently recorded the Prokofiev and Shostakovich Cello Sonatas with Ralph Kirshbaum (on Altara Records), with whom he will be giving a number of recitals including at the Frick Collection in New York. He has also recently begun collaborating with Michael Collins and Isabelle van Kuelen and will be performing with them as part of Valery Gergiev’s Freedom Festival in Rotterdam.
Peter Jablonski is Artistic Director of the annual Karlskrona Chamber Music Festival in Sweden. He is also Artistic Director to Altara Records. Mr Jablonski has recorded for Octavia Records and has a prolific output with Decca. His disc of Rachmaninoff’s Rhapsody on a theme by Paganini and Shostakovich’s Piano Concerto No.1 under Ashkenazy earned an Edison Award. He also collaborated with Anne Sofie von Otter and Bengt Forsberg in a recording of works by Chaminade for Deutsche Gramophon, which earned a Gramophone Award in 2002.
In June 2005 Peter Jablonski was awarded the Litteris et Artibus Medal by the King of Sweden for pre-eminent achievement as a pianist. In 1998 he was given the Orpheus Award at the Warsaw Autumn Festival for his premiere performance of Kilar's Piano Concerto, which was written for and dedicated to him. And in 1996 he won the Årets Svensk I Världen—a prestigious annual award presented to those who have contributed to the worldwide promotion of Sweden.
