CINCINNATI, OH (March 31, 2023) — The Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra’s (CSO) Multicultural Awareness Council (MAC) is seeking nominations for the 2022-23 MAC Award for Diversity and Leadership in the Arts. The award recognizes local artists, administrators, and innovators who have trailblazed and established pathways for inclusion of underrepresented communities in the arts. Nominations for the MAC Award are due Friday, April 28, 2023.

“We are very grateful for the visionaries who have worked so hard to pave the way for diversity and inclusion throughout the arts in Cincinnati,” said Harold Brown, CSO Chief Diversity & Inclusion Officer. “We at the CSO are committed to creating a culture that is welcoming to all members of our community, from the stage to the audience. Each year, we look forward to presenting the MAC Award to a deserving and passionate arts champion.”

Named after the CSO’s Multicultural Awareness Council, the MAC Award was created by the CSO in 2017 to recognize and highlight Cincinnati-based artists and administrators who have devoted their efforts to promote diversity and inclusion throughout the arts. Former recipients of the award include William Joel McCray (former educator and co-founder of the Robert S. Duncanson Society at Taft Art Museum), Kathy Jorgenson-Finley (former Community Engagement and Diversity Manager for the CSO), Marion Peraza (music teacher and coach for CSO Nouveau Chamber Players), Toilynn O’Neal Turner (arts advocate and DEI educator), Kick Lee (founder of the Cincinnati Music Accelerator), and Tracy L. Wilson (Director of Community Engagement and Education at Cincinnati Opera).

Individuals from all arts disciplines who have demonstrated dedication and commitment to diversity and inclusion initiatives throughout the Greater Cincinnati region are eligible to receive this award. Nominations by individual community members and local arts organizations will be accepted. To nominate a commendable arts leader, please visit the CSO website to complete the form by Friday, April 28, 2023. Recipients will be notified in May, and they will be formally recognized and honored at the annual MAC Award for Leadership and Diversity in the Arts Reception (scheduling to be announced soon).
