Activities/organizations outside of the CSO: In addition to my position in the CSO, I am Associate Professor, Educator of Cello at the University of Cincinnati, College-Conservatory of Music, where I teach a full class of cello students.  My wife Dr. Sarah Kim is Assistant Professor of Cello at Miami University in Oxford, OH and we are the co-founders of the Cincinnati Young Artists and the Ascent International Chamber Music Festival, of which I am also the Artistic Director.

Fun fact about Alan: We have two Cavalier King Charles Spaniels, Sophie and Rocco and our family enjoys traveling, both to teach in various locations and for fun!

How the orchestra makes the world a better place: The CSO has always made it a priority to reach out to those in our community who are not usually able to attend a CSO concert.  During the pandemic, I was blown away by the efforts undertaken to take that even further.  Besides being among one of the first orchestras to safely have audiences return to Music Hall, we have become a leader in streaming.  This allows my family who lives far away to enjoy our concerts!
