Rachmaninoff's Third Piano Concerto, an engine of lush melodies, churning energies and Russian romanticism, is performed by pianist Conrad Tao. Elgar's Enigma Variations are sketches of his dear friends, each containing, as Elgar noted, "a distinct idea founded on some particular personality."
