What's Interesting

Like an interwoven tapestry of wires, both literal and metaphorical, composer Bryce Dessner — member of Grammy-winning band The National — along with piano duo Katia and Marielle Labèque join Louis Langrée and the CSO to explore the 21st century sound.

Bryce Dessner’s Wires, on which he will also perform, is a modern fusion of rhythm and sound that puts the spotlight on three wired instruments: the electric guitar, harp and piano. Close personal friends of Bryce, Katia and Marielle Labèque, take on Dessner’s moody and textural Concerto for Two Pianos — a piece of Rachmaninoff-like athleticism written especially for them. And while not from the 21st Century, the atmospheric Gymnopédie No. 1 & No. 2 from French composer Erik Satie, offer a beautiful lightness between Bryce’s works.

Conducted by CSO Music Director Louis Langrée, long-time collaborator and friend of Bryce, Katia and Marielle, this is true music-making among friends.
