CINCINNATI, OH (February 8, 2022)—The Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra’s (CSO) Multicultural Awareness Council (MAC) is seeking nominations for the 2021-22 MAC Award for Diversity and Leadership in the Arts to recognize local artists, administrators, and visionaries who have forged paths for the inclusion of underrepresented communities in the arts. Nominations for the MAC Award are due Friday, February 25, 2022.

“The CSO has made a strong commitment to creating a culture that is welcoming to all members of our community, from the stage to the audience,” said CSO Chief Diversity & Inclusion Officer Harold Brown. “We are grateful for the leaders and supporters in our community who have paved the way for diversity and inclusion in the arts in our city for decades, and we are excited to present the MAC Award to deserving people.”

The MAC Award, named after the CSO Multicultural Awareness Council, was created by the Orchestra in 2017 to recognize Cincinnati-based artists and administrators with a passion for promoting diversity and inclusion. Past recipients of the award include William Joel McCray (former educator and co-founder of the Robert S. Duncanson Society at Taft Art Museum), Kathy Jorgenson-Finley (former Community Engagement and Diversity Manager for the CSO), Marion Peraza (music teacher and coach for CSO Nouveau Chamber Players), Toilynn O’Neal Turner (arts advocate and DEI educator), and Tracy L. Wilson (Director of Community Engagement and Education at Cincinnati Opera).

Leaders from all arts disciplines who demonstrate a passion and commitment to diversity and inclusion initiatives in Cincinnati and the Greater Cincinnati region are eligible for the award. Nominations by individual community members and local arts organizations will be accepted. To nominate a deserving arts leader, please visit the CSO website to complete the form. All nominations are due by Friday, February 25, 2022 at 5 p.m. to be considered. Recipients will be notified in March and formally recognized at the annual MAC Award for Leadership and Diversity in the Arts Reception, to be scheduled.
