Donald Runnicles makes his Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra debut this month in a concert featuring Bruckner’s monumental Symphony No. 8, music that explores the expanse of human emotion. He spoke with Fanfare Cincinnati recently to talk about this symphony, which he will conduct in concerts Feb. 8–9.
What draws you to Bruckner?
His modest yet unerring honing and refining of his musical talents over his nine symphonies. His music. His unwavering belief in God.
Is there something about Bruckner 8 that particularly inspires you?
The spiritual journey. The Patience. The architecture. The Summit .
